Will businesses owned by city council members be held accountable and be required to pay the same fines? Or will they get treated differently as they are with property taxes and HPD fines?
As an example, Darlene Mealy has not paid her taxes or HPD levied fines in nearly 4 years, but because of her role as a city council member manages to avoid any consequences for not paying nearly $23K in back taxes and fines.
Can we hold The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to a higher standard than we do DOF and HPD – and insist they apply these laws equally to all businesses regardless of if they are owned by elected officials?
