Adopted rule summary:
The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection is adding rules to implement the Licensing Laws, which require self-storage facilities to obtain a license, and further require that self-storage facilities provide certain fee disclosures to consumers. The Department is also adding rules requiring certain disclosures in the self-storage sector pursuant to the commissioner’s general powers with respect to licensing and with respect to prohibiting deceptive and unconscionable trade practices. Finally, the Department is updating its storage warehouse rules for consistency with the Licensing Laws.

Comment added April 29, 2026 10:57amNot sure if this includes the use of storage facilities of food store in mixed-use building- outside in a yard. It is now used as distribution center for delivery workers, not necessarily for food but for packages to distribute to neighboring buildings. Such is the case in my building. Days and nights of pounding from dropped packages and boxes, sorted, loaded and unloaded. Why on earth is this acceptable, either with a license or not! It is time to think about people who live in/near these places and not just the businesses. Sadly, our govt seems to be putting both of these in conflict with each other.
