Local Law 47 of 2025 added section 3307.6.2.1 to the New York City Building Code, requiring the Department to promulgate rules for the use of containment netting as an alternative to a sidewalk shed for required pedestrian protection in areas with no public access or for use on a building exposure adjoining the exposure where façade work is to occur. The Department is proposing a new rule to set out the conditions for optional use of such netting, as well as requirements for the design, materials, installation, adjustment, maintenance, repair, and inspection of the netting.
