The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has adopted amendment of the Chapter 23 (Food Service Establishment Sanitary Inspection Procedures and Letter Grading) of Title 24 of the Rules of the City of New York to update certain requirements concerning inspections of a food service establishment.

    As a small business owner, it is very challenging to keep up with and implement all the new rules introduced by the Department of Health. I truly believe that first-time violations should carry a $0 penalty, giving us a chance to correct honest mistakes, which more often than not happen out of a lack of awareness rather than willful negligence.
