The proposed amendments would change how building owners can prove compliance with the fire and safety standards of Article 7-B of the Multiple Dwelling Law and would require that owners obtain a temporary or final certificate of occupancy if there is an Article 7-B certification on file with the Loft Board prior to the effective date of these amended rules.

Comment added March 23, 2026 5:58pmAs a loft tenant for more than 27 years, I wholeheartedly support the Loft Board’s regulations amendment that will increase enforcement action ability upon landlords that are failing to comply with the rules. Thank you for making this important step forward.
If the Loft Board would also then pursue these actions, maybe landlords will be more likely to refrain from harassment and take steps to fix building issues that render units uninhabitable. Know that if the Loft Board can stop the harassment tenants are subject to before it becomes chronic, it will make for a safer, less burdensome process for every tenant in IMD units across our city.
