Thank you for working to expand financing for Green Roofs in New York City. Because it is important for our city to build as many green roofs as possible on buildings that are connected to our combined sewer system, I believe that the priority area for the $15 tax abatement should include the entire city, excluding the MS4 area.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener place.
Sincerely,

Comment added January 13, 2021 2:43pmI am writing to express my strong support for the proposal to increase the green roof rebate to $15 per square foot. Further, it is my strong belief that every roof in NYC that drains into our combined sewer system should be prioritized, meaning everywhere except zones marked “MS4” that do not contribute to combined sewer overflow.

Because it is important for our city to build as many green roofs as possible on buildings that are connected to our combined sewer system, I believe that the priority area for the $15 tax abatement should include the entire city, excluding the MS4 area.
As climate change increases the threats to our beleaguered infrastructure, it is all the more important now to encourage ways of mitigating the effects of the super-storms that are still to come.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener place.

Comment added January 13, 2021 2:45pmPlease do increase the tax abatement for green roofs to $15 or at least $10 to recognize how they decrease the impact on the sewer system.
We need to encourage more green roofs in NYC, make the expensive construction worth the effort by increasing the taxt abatement!
Thank you!

Comment added January 13, 2021 2:55pmI live in a large coop in Manhattan. We would love to have things like a green roof, but so far it isn’t economically feasible. Please work to make this sort of thing affordable all across NYC, in this particular case to all who contribute to our common public sewer system! We can save money in the long run, cut down on heating and cooling, and be an outstanding green city.

Comment added January 13, 2021 4:54pmI have long dreamed of a city full of green spaces that cool the city, filter rainwater, and provide more therapeutic, peaceful spots for New Yorkers to take a breathe and grow their own food. Thank you for working to expand financing for Green Roofs in New York City. The widespread adoption of green roofs across the city has the potential to deliver a number of important benefits: establishing food and habitat networks for the pollinators, reducing energy expended on cooling buildings, and helping to prevent the runoff and overflow of our combined sewer systems. These benefits have been shown to increase at an exponential rate the denser the network of green roofs in a given area becomes. Because it is important for our city to build as many green roofs as possible, especially on buildings that are connected to our combined sewer system, I believe that the priority area for the $15 tax abatement should include the entire city, excluding the MS4 area.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener place.

Green roofs provide a host of local benefits to our communities, including rich and biodiverse ecosystems, rewarding recreational green space, and a decrease in water flow into the combined sewer systems.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener place.

Comment added January 14, 2021 2:30pmDear Mister or Ms Office of Sustainability,
Unfortunately, for many years, people in positions of power have failed to understand, appreciate, and plan for a future that allows us city-dwellers to live sustainably. While city dwellers consume less energy and contribute less to climate change than those in rural or suburban areas (thanks, density!), there is always room for improvement! Especially where plants and green spaces are concerned. It has been brought to my attention by people who pay very close attention to these things, that I should be advocating for the priority area for the $15 tax abatement to include the entire city! Money drives change, especially in this godforsaken greedy city that I love so dearly.
PLUS, WHO DOESN’T WANT MORE BUTTERFLIES?!?!?!?!?
Let’s work together to make the city greener, sexier, and more sustainable!

I and many of my fellow New Yorkers appreciate that you recognize the significant impact that increasing Green Roofs in our city will have on achieving our climate goals and creating a healthier city over all. Because of the importance of this endeavor, I believe that the entire city (excluding the MS4 area) should be considered a priority for raising tax abatements to $15. If this is deemed infeasible, I believe that lower income neighborhoods should be prioritized as they would experience a greater benefit from additional green space and are less economically able to pay for this improvement themselves.
I thank you again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener and healthier place for all.

Investment in green space, especially where there was previously impermeable space, is crucial in our city. It allows all of our systems to relax a little. It keeps our waterways cleaner. Green roofs keep our buildings cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, and it makes them last longer. It alleviates the stress on the electrical grid. It can also provide space for recreation, for learning, for native species, for fresh produce, etc.
This investment might seem large on a balance sheet, but the investment will go a long way to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in the city.
Best wishes,
Justin -

Comment added January 14, 2021 9:19pmI fully support increased financial incentives, tax breaks and opportunities to aid in creating more green roofs in NY Metro area. It’s not only beautiful, it’s an energy saver insulator, and air quality enhancement. Plus reduces reflective surfaces back into the atmosphere. This isn’t innovative elsewhere, it’s been subsidized and encouraged in other countries for years. We need to catch up with the curve.

Comment added January 14, 2021 9:27pmHi There,
Per Governor Cuomo’s state of the state address we need to prioritize a green future.
The $15 tax abatement incentive will help alleviate the negative long term health effects of climate change. For instance, green rooftops can help prevent overflow of rain water cross contamination in sewers and reduce chances of E.coli outbreaks. Increased green rooftops will help mitigate rising heat temperatures. This will decrease mosquitos who transmit infectious diseases in hotter climates. The list goes on but it’s the right thing to do.
Hope you will pass this proposal and consider what’s best for New Yorkers rather letting inhabitants try to crunch numbers and price each other out of the market.
Kindest,
Sascha

Thank you for working to expand financing for Green Roofs in New York City. There are so many reasons to encourage Green Roofs across the City. As other cities around the world who have focused on increased urban greenery and Green Roofs, we know it will help cool the City in its summer months, combat the effect of emissions, improve air quality, and overall, beautify this city. I have often dreamed aloud to my friends and colleagues how wonderful it would be to have Green Roofs across the City growing food, creating shade on our rooftops and making our summers a bit more bearable.

It is absolutely necessary in 2021 that you approve this incentive. New York still produces massive amounts of emissions and rooftop gardens are a no brainer in “greenifying” our city. I don’t think I need to list the manifold of ways that this impacts various issues in our community, something which can serve all people, because by 2021 the knowledge of how obvious the benefits are is pervasive as can be. It is now up to our elected officials who we vote for to serve for the wellbeing of the general NYC community, and those officials are you who read this. This could not be more essential for preventing catastrophic events affecting our planet and community. I beg you for me, for you, for our families, for our children, for our friends and neighbors to please act now and incentivize green roofs.
Many thanks,
Daniela -

Thank you for working to make the city a greener place. I believe that expanding financing for Green Roofs in New York City can create a better New York. Because it is important for our city to build as many green roofs as possible on buildings that are connected to our combined sewer system, I believe that the priority area for the $15 tax abatement should include the entire city, excluding the MS4 area. The ecological benefits are clear and the social benefits are priceless. As a rooftop farmer, I get to see the magic of these spaces every day–I hope we’re able to spread that magic throughout the city.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener place.

The current $1M annual cap on this program severely limits it’s usefulness. One greenroof on a Wegmans Food Market like the one in Brooklyn Navy Yard will use up the entire annual tax abatement budget. Please ask NYState to raise the annual cap to at least $100M to begin to make a difference in our CSO volume, as well as improving urban air pollution, heat vulnerability, and increasing environmental justice.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener place.

Thank you for working to expand financing for Green Roofs in New York City. New York City should be working as hard as possible to be at the forefront of combating climate change and acting as a leader for the country in sustainable initiatives. To date, it seems that other cities & smaller municipalities are doing more than the city.
As an architect, I believe that a robust Green Roofs initiative would go very far in our very dense and populated city. In addition to environmental & infrastructural benefits to the city, it would also aid in creating new work and jobs in the city, which will be much needed throughout the city for its long term recovery from the pandemic. Given that, I believe that the priority area for the $15 tax abatement should include the entire city, excluding the MS4 area.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to making New York a greener place.

Considering the climate crisis, and assuring our city’s immediate response to a more sustainable solution, it is important for NYC to build as many green roofs as possible on buildings that are connected to our combined sewer system. I believe that the priority area for the $15 tax abatement should include the entire city, excluding the MS4 area. This will not only promote a revenue of local agriculture, but also contribute to the betterment of our local community’s health and safety.
Thank you for your commitment to make New York City a greener and more habitable place.
Sincerely,
