NYC Rules Community Use Policy

By logging in to NYC Rules as a registered user, you agree to participate in our online community.  You agree to abide by the NYC.gov Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and to faithfully adhere to this NYC Rules Community Policy.

What to do

  • Use your real name.  NYC Rules does not offer anonymous accounts.  This site is about real people sharing their comments and suggestions on proposed rules and staying up-to-date on the latest news in rulemaking.  If you do not wish to log in to NYC Rules using your name, you can still use the website to learn more about the City’s rules and the rulemaking process and may still submit comments directly to the agency by mail or at a public hearing.
  • Share your comment.  If you have an opinion or information related to a proposed rule, submit it on NYC Rules.  Your feedback will automatically be part of the official record for that rule, and will help inform City agencies about what should be included in the final rule.
  • Stay on topic.  Comments should provide feedback on a specific proposed rule only.
  • Tell us what you think, without repetition.  There is no need to post the same comment more than once.  If you have additional ideas or new information, you can submit a new comment with your updated feedback.
  • Stay current.  Keep up with the latest rules and related news by subscribing to our email newsletter or by regularly visiting the Proposed Rules and Recently Adopted Rules pages of the website.

What not to do

  • Do not use profanity.  Comments using profane language will not be posted.
  • Do not be disrespectful.  This site is not a place to harass, threaten, or intimidate others.  Complaints of inappropriate behavior will be investigated and any comments found to be in violation of the Community Policy will be removed.
  • Do not send SPAM.  NYC Rules is your outlet to provide comments on City rules, not to send advertisements.  Any commercial messages and spam links will be removed.
  • Do not expose confidential or copyrighted information.  Do not post copyrighted material or other people’s names, addresses, and phone numbers.
  • Do not misuse the contents of this site or attempt to access restricted domains.  Do not run bots on the site or try to alter it.

If you object to the community guidelines outlined above, or to the NYC.gov Terms of Use and Privacy Policy that also govern this site, you can still keep up to date with rules information by reading The City Record.  You can also participate in the rulemaking process by providing comments by mail or at a public hearing.
