Adopted rule summary:

The New York City Department of Finance (DOF) is adopting rules concerning a school bus photo violation monitoring system to enforce state laws against passing stopped school buses. These rules establish the fines and penalty for such violations, provide requirements for the notice of liability that will be sent to motorists by the New York City Department of Transportation, and authorize the Parking Violations Bureau (“PVB”), a division of DOF, to adjudicate allegations of liability.

THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, ALL TYPES OF SITUATIONS OCCUR WHILE DRIVING IN THE STREET INCLUDING RECKLESS SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO TAKE A PHOTO OR GIVE A SUMMONS.

Illegally passing stopped school buses is a crime like few others. It is so clearly dangerous to some of our most vulnerable New Yorkers, so obviously wrong, and so directly stated that to do so is illegal, and yet, impatient motorists continue to do it. As we’ve seen such success with red light cameras and speeding cameras- 80% of speeding camera violators never speed again- this policy is a no-brainer. NYC roads keep getting more dangerous, all thanks to drivers. We need to do more to make sure such patently dangerous activity is as dis-incentivized as possible.

I am in support of the photo monitoring violations! It will encourage drivers to follow the rules so kids can be safe.

Until NYC comes up with ticketing illegal e-bike, e-scooters, mopeds for over speed limit, running red lights and NOT obeying traffic law and forth to make things equal with the motorized vehicles; then it’d make sense to photo whoever that pass a school bus which post dangers to all pedestrians. These illegal forms of transportation has posted more danger to pedestrians in all kinds larger than motorized vehicles.
