Public comments for: Amendment of Recreation Center Membership Rules

The NYC Veterans Alliance strongly supports these rule changes. We testified in favor of legislation reducing NYC Parks facility fees for veterans and people with disabilities last year because we have found that our wealth of city parks spaces and facilities has an overwhelmingly positive influence on our community's physical and mental health and well being, and making these facilities more accessible will truly be a game-changer for so many who are in need of these positive outlets. Thank you to all of the disability advocates and veterans advocates who have fought for increasing accessibility. While we wish these facilities could come at no cost to our community, we recognize that upkeep of our city's excellent facilities does have a cost, and the $25 annual fees for veterans are a reasonable low bar that will, we hope, dramatically increase the number of veterans and people with disabilities who make use of them. We are also in agreement with the identification criteria for veterans that is in accordance with the NYC Charter's inclusive definition of who is defined as a veteran in NYC. Thanks to everyone who made these changes possible.
